About Cal Poly SLOCAVORE Workshops

California’s Central Coast is home to a rich agricultural tradition. Today, it is at the center of a blossoming artisan food and wine culture. Located in the heart of the region, San Luis Obispo is surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful coastline and mountains, yet is within easy access of the Los Angeles and San Francisco metropolitan areas – themselves renowned for their culinary complexity and style. Nationally, there is a resurgent interest in regional food systems and the uniqueness that each offers. This is fostering the trend to purchase, consume and enjoy fresh, local fare, a choice sometimes referred to as ‘locavore.’

Cal Poly SLOcavore is about experiencing the special bounty of the Central Coast through its foods, wines, lifestyle and stewards of the land. Through a series of special workshops, events and public engagements, we invite you to an insider’s taste of the SLO life. In keeping with the Cal Poly Learn by Doing tradition, our offerings focus on experiential education that will deepen your understanding of what you see, taste and explore with us.

A wide range of creative Extended Education curricula has been developed– something for the discriminating connoisseur, backyard enthusiast and production-minded professional alike. Most of all, a sense of fun and adventure is instilled in our offerings, whether they be on a farm, in a vineyard or on campus. We hope you will join us!
